I met Bruce and Laura Martin in Aug. 2006 when I was looking for a show horse for myself. It was very clear that they were sincere people, who took care and pride in breeding and starting good minded and conformationally correct horsees. I knew they had a mare which was a full sister to my daughter Anya's great gelding Mea Kitty Whiskers, also known as Kat. A very sad day for our family was the day we lost Kat to colic. When I told Laura about our loss, she told me that a colt was born on the same day he passed , from his full sister, Mea Whiskey's Fantasy. I bought the colt for Anya sight unseen.
Little Joe, as we call him, was very relaxed too. He settled into the environment, and the show pen didn't phase him a bit! My intention was to just hang out in the hitching ring, and enter some halter classes. He placed 2nd to his full brother in 3&4 year old Halter Geldings. I took him in Open Trail the next day and he did very well, not at all worried and actually placed 6th in quite a good sized class.

We started looking for a horse almost a year ago. After researching an endless number of possibilities, we found ourselves always coming back to the Painted River Ranch website. Their horses stood out among the hundreds of horses available for sale across the Prairies. Their horses presented the correct conformation, with proven winners in a variety of different disciplines, and with a great temperament to go with those abilities.
We contacted the Martins and went for a look at a potential horse. It was a really rewarding experience for us. Bruce and Laura welcomed us into their home and were able to answer our endless supply of horse questions. After ground and riding demonstrations along with our own assessments, the final decision was simple. Vet check and hauling issues were easily arranged. The horse has turned out to be everything we were looking ... and more. Thank you ever so much for your candor, helpfulness, and hospitality.
The Martins have every reason to take pride in their horses. They truly are remarkable. We look forward to many years with a great horse and a continuing friendship with Bruce and Laura

Owners of PRR Heza Class Act - 2004 Sorrel Tobiano Gelding & PRR Sheza Class Act, 2008 Palomino Tobi Filly
April 2009

I just wanted to tell everyone what awesome people Bruce & Laura are! I purchased PRR Heza ClassAct back in 2004, the first colt to Carols Jessie.
Y'all should see him now, what a brick house (See pg 3 of horses sold). Years later, here comes "Ronnies" little sister, "LillyBug" we call her now. After talking to Laura about purchasing the filly, they offered to bring her to me here in sunny California. These two wonderful people spent four days on the road to bring me this awesome little girl, not very many breeders that I know of would even consider that.
It was nice to have them spend the evening with us and over a wonderful home cooked meal we spent the whole evening just laughing and talking with these two. Bruce & Laura are truly magnificent people, very down to earth and easy to talk to.
If you are in this "book" to get to know how these people are because you are interested in purchasing a horse from them, then trust me when I saw, these to bring a new meaning to the word family.
Should I decide that I need to purchase a third horse, I will be calling on my friends, Bruce & Laura Martin!!

4. Laurie Gair, Vancouver, B.C.
Owner of PRR Painted On Levis, 2005 Sorrel Tobiano Gelding
Thanks Laura & Bruce for selling Levi to me. He's great! Thanks also for the care you gave Levi after I purchased him from you.
For anyone considering purchasing a horse from Painted River Ranch, I can only say that my experience with Laura and Bruce was exceptional. Not only do they have awesome horses but they provide all sorts of assistance to the purchaser. I saw Laura's and Bruce's web site when I googled "paint horses Canada". Having reviewed several other sites I decided to contact the Martin's to see if I could come out and look at a couple of their horses. Laura & Bruce opened their home to me when I flew in from Vancouver to first look at the horses. I ended up purchasing "Levi" in 2007 but due to circumstances was unable to bring him to Vancouver until the summer of 2008. Laura & Bruce invited me back to see his progress during the year he was there. They not only sold me this wonderful horse but looked after him and started training him for me while he remained in Saskatchewan. When I couldn't find a stable in Vancouver, Laura helped me out and found the perfect place. Bruce and Laura also arranged for Levi's transportation to Vancouver.
I can't say enough about the Martins and their horses. It has been a real pleasure doing business with them!
Sincerely,
Laurie Gair & "PRR Painted On Levis"

Iza Lil Jazz, 1999 Sorrel Overo Gelding
March 2008
We first met Laura and Bruce when we purchased a gelding by the name of Cash( Iza Lil Jazz) as a 13th birthday present for our daughter Kate. Cash is out of a mare the Martin's own by the name of Bar J Lilly Cloud. Cash was Kate's first horse and her first real love. In the four years they have been together they have grown into an inseparable team. This past show season alone has produced some wonderful results such as APHC Reserve Year End Hi Point Youth 14-18, Reserve Hi-point Barrel racing 14-18 and Hi-point Pole Bending 14-to 18. They have two ROMS and points in almost every APHC sanctioned events in the 2007 season . The list goes on and on but the real story here is about the trust Kate and Cash have in each other. This trust began with the sound mind and body of this exceptional all around horse of the Martins. They have a knack of consistently producing "bomb proof" horses that are at home in the show ring or packing a stove on some back-country trail in the mountains. We have watched Kate grow from a shy, quiet brace-faced 13yr old in to a confident young women who knows where she wants to go in life. The path for Kate has been made clear by the love and devotion of a very special horse... We thank the Martins for Cash and also for the continuing support they have given to our family over the past few very enjoyable years. No matter where Kate goes from here we know that Cash will not be far behind, he is a "keeper". We thank the Martins for the sweetest horse in the world and also for their continued support over the last few years. What great ride!

Neil and I would like to let folks out there know that buying horses from the Martin's at Painted River Ranch has been a wonderful experience for us. In the past 6 years we've purchased 4 horses from the Martin's. Last spring our mare foaled a beautiful black and white filly sired by PRR C.T. Gallantly.
Our first two purchases were older horses. We were extremely "green" with horses, Laura & Bruce ensured we had awesome horses that would help us learn safely. If you are looking for honest people to sell you the "right" horses, these are the people to go to. They take pride in knowing when beginner's like us go home with one of their horses, you have a good "fit" and "what's best for you" and you can rely on their recommendation. Amateur and professional riders will go home with a horse that can exceed your expectations! Evidence of that in the Paint Horse Journal and bronze statues and ribbons displayed everywhere!
We purchased two more - only this time young paints! We would never go elsewhere to buy a horse or have it started. Our horses are exceptional in confirmation, ability and work ethic. But more importantly for regular folks like us, who want to take our horses anywhere and learn with them, these paint horses are easy going; honest; forgiving of our mistakes; trustworthy and love to be with people. We've sat on their backs since they were 2. We sent them back to Laura & Bruce for starting last summer and have been enjoying riding them everywhere.
My 5 & 7 yr old nieces have been on them (haltered of course) last two summers and I've never had to worry the horses will take advantage of them or of me. Everyone out there knows anything can happen at any time with any horse from anywhere. Having said that, we now realize how much the Martin's take the time and extra care in preparing their horses for people to enjoy safely. Their horses trust people and their surroundings. Bruce & Laura ensure they get all kinds of exposure to all kinds of situations. Our farrier has worked with them for 3 years and not a single issue (we get to stay on his extremely busy list!) Our vet has given the thumbs up on their behaviour as well. He gelded both 2 yr olds in an open pasture - no problems. My point is: no trouble catching them, loading them, working on them, they are healthy, sound, Very well mannered, willing, and adapt easy. Both vet and farrier tell us they are very pleased with early training, care and confidence these horses received.
Talk about adaptability - our paints were only 3 years old when we went on a pack trip and ended up packing "Steve" ! He accepted his load, no problem - carried along like he'd done it forever Wow! They turn 4 this spring and "Casper" is currently being ridden by a 14yr old in English saddle preparing for 'Hunter Under Saddle'. He's doing extremely well with an 80lb child riding him! That's a big switch for him after having me on him in western gear, learning as I go!!
We would be happy to talk to or have anyone visit us about our horses. We truly realize the value of what the Martin's have given their horses, us and the horse industry!

7. Kevin Henry: We own Dan, aka Smokey Joe, a super roping head horse with freight train speed and a heart
bigger than Texas. He just won the 04' World in Pole Bending. Thanks for your extraordinary care of him as a
colt that made this possible.
Diane Henry Kaufman, Texas: How can Kevin & I ever say "Thank you" enough times for Ima Dancing Fantasy? He
is the easiest horse we have ever worked with. His Can-do attitude is so special. Thanks again.

Hi Laura and Bruce, I just wanted to let you know that Hemi is working out better than I ever thought he would and
you know that's huge because I thought he was super terrific in the first place. I think he could be movie star, he's so darn smart and he just absorbs everything I teach him. I just love him!

During my many years of showing and riding I have met many wonderful "horse people" and last year I had
the good fortune of meeting Bruce and Laura Martin, owners of Painted River Ranch. Not only was I able to
visit their ranch, I was also able to wander through their "herd." I think you can tell a lot about people by
the way their animals react to them, so when we walked out into the pasture and were immediately surrounded
by friendly, curious horses, I knew these were people I could trust and with whom I could develop a lasting
friendship. On my journey through their herd of horses that day I was sure that I would find my next equine
friend, and sure enough, we found him. Standing quietly amongst the others who were eagerly seeking pats
and scratches, was a lovely yearling gelding named Floyd. My daughter went straight up to him, played with
him and announced that he was the one. Floyd came home with us last summer and we have enjoyed him ever
since. As is characteristic of his bloodline, he is good-natured, calm, patient, willing, and loves to be with people.
He handled his first showing experience with ease, and with much success in his halter classes. It was so much
fun sharing that experience with Bruce and Laura. Floyd and I have spent the winter doing lots of ground work
and lunging in preparation for his training this summer. He handles each new challenge confidently and quietly.
I am so grateful to Bruce and Laura for allowing me the privilege of owing one of their horses, and for their
help and support along our journey. I look forward to continuing our friendship and to the future in the show ring and on the trails with Floyd. Sincerely, Deb Brown
