Our Background
Both Bruce and Laura had "horse expereince" at early ages.
Some good experiences, some bad experiences - but from each one, we learned something new. It is this 60+ years of combined horse experiences that compliment each others abilities now and add to the versatility of our horses.
Neither of us had the comfort of being born into horse experienced families. But like the parents of most horse crazy kids, they endured our equine obsessions hoping we would someday grow out of it. Despite their efforts to curb the "horse habit" at an early age, they quickly learned it was our permanent disposition and shapes who we have become today.
Laura spent most of her childhood going through the series of "ill matched" ponies and horses, until with the help of a local 4-H leader, she found her right match at the age of 9. That pony became the first to earn a Canadian Champion title in 1974.
Since that point in time, breeding and training her own prospects has always been included in her life.
Bruce had a Grandpa that took great pride in bringing home the local auction mart deals for young Bruce to ride. Bruce quickly learned what would work and what wouldn't! By both graduating from the "school of hard knocks" we learned at a young age how to be creative problem solvers when it came to a challanging horse or situation.
Bruce's interests developed into hunting and mountain packing on horseback, cattle work, speed events, and his favorite - working with problem horses. Laura has always enjoyed breeding, raising, training prospects for english and western show events and has had some gymkana, team roping and team penning experience. Some prospects may find themselves in the show pen, packing on mountain trails, moving cattle here at the ranch or helping to haul a deer, moose or elk out of dense bush. We have found that these early experiences help to make our prospects confident and comfortable in a variety of environments. This confidence adds to their "usefullness" to folks with a wide variety of interests and disciplines - "one horse for the whole family to enjoy". In order to meet the demands of todays "multi-disciplined" market we strive to produce and start the type of horse that has the capability and early exposures to do a wide variety of tasks confidently.
