Welcome to Painted River Ranch
Painted River Ranch (1989) is nestled in the scenic Blucher hills just east of Saskatoon, Saskachewan. CANADA. It is the perfect country for raising and training quality show and recreation horses in a totally natural environoment. With the help of my new life partner, Ralph Flegg, we continue to raise the type of quality paint horses the market demands. I have been involved in the Alberta & Saskatchewan horse industry since the 1970's.
I breed, raise & trail colorful, versatile paint horses for a wide variety of disciplines; whether you are looking for a show horse or a reliable recreation horse - PRR horses will fulfill your needs. They are started with a good solid foundation combining outside miles and arena training, making it easy to build on to the discipline of your choice. Our prospects have gone on to pursue successful careers in the dressage pen, rope pen, show pen and competitive trail riding events.
PRR horses are amateur and youth friendly and compete successfully at local events & world show levels. The first paint horse I raised went on to become a 5X APHA World Champion speed event horse. "Smokey" still holds the record for most APHA World Titles won by a Canadian Bred horse.
In today's competitive & saturated horse market we realize that not everyone is looking for a show or arena horse. Most folks want something broke, honest, reliable and most of all safe. People are more busy today than they were decades ago, they want something trustworthy they can jump on and go for a relaxing ride on whether they ride once a week or once a year. These horses need to be consistent, reliable and most of all safe for time stretched amatuers. We build those types of horses starting at conception. Disposition is the most important quality mares and stallion must posses. We constantly strive to improve disposition, conformation, movement, athletic, versatile abilities that require little time for your investment return.
When my late husband, Bruce Martin passed away Dec. 23, 2014, I downsized considerably in 2015, kept only my best mares and breed only 1 or 2 a year. I like to set these foals up for a lifetime of sucess by putting a good start on them, they rarely change hands, and you do not see alot of PRR horses listed for sale. I am proud of the reputation behind the PRR letters and have always beleived in the honesty and intregity of a well represented horse. Despite dramtic changes in the horse industry in the last 40 years....that belief has treated me well.
PRR horses have proven they can hold their own at World APHA levels. PRR Classy Whiskey, A.Pt. H.A World top five youth halter geldings and APHA superior halter, PRR Time for Scotch. We bred and trained the 2012 APHA Zone 10 Novice Amateur All-Around Champion and A.P.H.C. High Point Open Jr. Trail Horse. PRR Time For Scotch - (Justin). Laura and Justin made the APHA Top 20 Novice Amateur World list in 2012.
I own 3X World Champion and Reserve World Champion (Pt.H.A) Paint Stallion Pistol Packin Frekles, APHA/Pt.H.A. (a.k.a. “Pete). Pete has 4 APHA superiors in western pleasure, horsemanship andtrail, and a Reserve World Champion title in western riding, APHA points in halter, showmanship, hunter under saddle and hunt seat equitation. He has been shown in amateur and novice amateur divisions, proving he is a great minded, athletic & versatile stallion.
In 2019 I turned in my 20 year old APHA Amatuer card and became a certified SHF Judge, IMTCA judge and a Certified Equine Canada Western Competition Coach - I love my new "semi-retirement" program and enjoy meeting new people and horses.
